Who need to file Income Tax?

Except for senior citizens(Refer, Section 194P), all individuals must file the ITR online via electronic filing. The income tax return can be e-filed electronically. A person must submit an income tax return to the Income Tax Department. It includes information about individual’s income, taxes paid, and the period from April 1st to March 31st of each financial year. The Income Tax Department has seven ITR forms that can be used to determine the income, source of income and tax category.

How can i file Income Tax?

How many types of forms available for e-filing?

The government has seven forms, ITR 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, to notify different taxpayer categories. Individuals and HUFs can use ITR-1 through ITR-4. You can choose the ITR form that best suits your income and source of income. ITR-5 is applicable to partnership firms, LLPs and Artificial Juridical Persons (AJP), AOP (Association of Persons), BoI [Body of Individuals], Artificial Juridical Persons (AJP), Estate of the deceased, Estate of Insolvent, Business trust, and investment fund.
All companies must file ITR-6. This does not apply to any company claiming exemption from income from property that is held for charitable or religious purposes. ITR-7 should be filed by such companies.

What is ITR-v?

The ITR-V document is a one-page document you will receive after you have e-filed your income tax return. It is also available for those who are awaiting e-verification. Online or offline verification is possible for your income tax return. Online verification is available in many ways. To verify your tax return offline, you will need to print, sign, and mail the ITR-V at the Income Tax Department within 120 calendar days of e-filing.

What documents are required to file an Income Tax?

PAN Card and Aadhaar Card are the most required documents to file an ITR. However apart from both documents you may need below mentioned documents too.

  4. Annual Information Statement
  5. Form 16A/16B/16C
  6. Interest certificates from post offices or banks
  7. House/Property details
  8. Capital Gains details(from mutual funds, stock market etc.)
  9. Business PL and BS (with schedules)
  10. Other income details (Dividend income, Family pension, Interest from loans, Honorarium received, Tuition fee, Freelancer income, Winnings from the lottery or game shows or puzzles etc.)

How can i claim my Income tax refund?

The excess tax you have paid can be refunded by filing your income-tax return. You can get it back by crediting your bank account via ECS transfer. Before you file your income tax return, it is important that your bank account details are pre-validated.
